What to know before setup
Samsung describes Secure Folder as a Knox-protected space with its own lock. Support is device-dependent. Treat another manufacturer’s private-space feature as a different product with different instructions. Do not install an unknown “unlock” tool to make a missing feature appear.
Write down your intended use first: private photographs, a separate app account, or temporary document storage. This helps you decide what belongs inside and what does not. Avoid collecting extra sensitive documents simply because a protected folder is available. For work documents, follow your employer’s approved storage rules.
Set up Samsung Secure Folder
- Open Settings, then Security and privacy → More security settings → Secure Folder.

Separate apps and notification privacy
Apps added to Secure Folder have independent data and accounts. Samsung also offers notification controls that can allow alerts while the folder is locked. Review these separately from the folder’s lock setting.
Try an ordinary test notification while another person could see the screen. Check the sender name, message preview and lock-screen display. Choose the least revealing settings that still meet your needs. A hidden shortcut should not be your only privacy measure.
Before signing into a second app account, verify which account is active inside and outside the folder. This can prevent sending a personal message from a work account or saving a file to the wrong destination.
Backup and phone-transfer limits
Samsung’s current support guidance says new Secure Folder backups are no longer supported. Older backups may still be restored, and Smart Switch can transfer Secure Folder content to a new device.

A transfer-complete message is a useful starting point, but checking the content itself gives you better evidence. Compare your most important folders and confirm app access separately.
