Dingtone combines internet calling, messaging and separate phone numbers. However, getting a number, keeping it active and using it for texts are different parts of the service. Do not assume that installing the app includes a permanent free number or unlimited messages to every destination.
Check availability before choosing a number
The Dingtone Android link previously shown here did not return a listing during our India-region check. This is a regional observation, not proof that the service has disappeared worldwide. If the official Google Play listing is unavailable to your account, do not install an APK to work around that limit. Choose a supported Play Store option and confirm its terms before spending money. We have not purchased or tested a number.
What does a number plan include?
Treat the checkout screen as a checklist: number country, billing period, renewal price, included calls and texts, and any additional credit requirement. A plan suitable for occasional messages can differ from one intended for daily calling. Save a copy of the offer you actually accept rather than relying on an old screenshot.
Dingtone’s terms say assigned numbers belong to the provider or its suppliers, and reserve the right to reclaim numbers after at least 30 days of inactivity. Check the rules applying to your particular number; buying access should not be confused with owning it permanently.
Will it receive every verification code?
No universal compatibility is established. Dingtone’s own UK-number guide acknowledges that some services reject virtual numbers. Receiving an ordinary message is not proof that a bank, account-recovery service or another app will accept the same number.
Before using a virtual number for an important account, check that account’s accepted recovery methods. Keep an alternative recovery method under your control. If a code does not arrive, contact the service involved instead of repeatedly buying new numbers with the expectation that one must work.
Manage subscriptions separately from the app
Dingtone’s subscription and cancellation policy describes recurring billing until cancellation and restrictions on refunds after a number has been used. Read the terms before activating a paid number, especially if you only need it briefly.
For purchases billed through Google Play, Google’s cancellation guidance says uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription. Open Google Play subscriptions with the account used for the purchase, select the relevant subscription and follow the cancellation steps. Confirm the status and end date. For another payment channel, use the instructions on that receipt.
Hushed: a paid second-number comparison with limits
Hushed on Google Play has a live public listing and is a separate product by AffinityClick. Its official plans offer US, Canadian and UK numbers with different local and international calling arrangements. This makes it a relevant feature comparison, not a promise of a free Indian mobile number.
India limitation: Hushed’s support guidance lists India among locations where voice calling is not guaranteed. Its verification-code guidance also says third-party codes are not guaranteed. Confirm supported use with the provider before purchasing; a visible store page alone is insufficient.
Decide whether you need a number at all
If you only want conversations with friends who can use the same messaging app, you may not need a paid virtual number. If you need incoming telephone calls or SMS, compare renewal rules and destination support first. For call-credit calculations, use our separate Dingtone cost guide.
How to Uninstall Dingtone or Hushed
Before giving up a rented number, update any accounts that still use it for contact or verification. Cancel the unwanted number plan through its billing provider, as explained above, then open Settings → Apps, select Dingtone or Hushed and tap Uninstall. Remove each app separately if both are installed.
