To find a saved screenshot on Android, start with the Screenshots folder in your gallery. If you need to search for words inside an image, Google Photos offers text search, and Google Lens can help you copy or translate the words after you open it.
Update about the earlier app: This page previously recommended Firefox ScreenshotGo. Mozilla says ScreenshotGo is no longer supported and will receive no further updates. The guide below uses Google Photos as an alternative for finding and reading screenshots. It is a different product, not a new version of ScreenshotGo.
Download the current alternative
Open Google Photos on Google Play and check that the developer is Google LLC. It may already be installed on your phone. A public listing being accessible does not guarantee installation on every device or availability of every feature.
Google Photos can organize images and search the library. It does not reproduce ScreenshotGo’s floating capture button. Continue to take screenshots with your phone’s normal screenshot control.
Find a screenshot by its folder or visible text
- Open Google Photos and use the Search or Ask tab shown in your version.
- Search for Screenshots and open the suggested collection. If you prefer, browse the Screenshots album or folder in your phone’s gallery.
- For a screenshot containing a distinctive phrase, enter that phrase in quotation marks. Google’s help says quotation marks can find exact text in photos, captions and filenames.
- Review the image itself before relying on the result. Try a shorter word or browse by date if a long search does not find it.
For example, a saved booking screenshot might contain a shop name or a booking reference. Searching for that visible word is more useful than searching for a vague term such as “important.” Do not treat missing search results as proof that the screenshot was deleted.
Copy text from a screenshot with Google Lens
- Open the screenshot in Google Photos.
- Choose Google Lens; Google’s current help places it under the More menu. Your version may show a Lens shortcut directly.
- Select the recognized words and choose the copy action. Use Translate if you want a translation.
- Compare names, dates, prices and numbers with the original image before pasting or sharing the result.
Text recognition can misread small lettering, blur, stylized fonts or a busy background. This guide does not claim perfect Tamil or English recognition on every screenshot.
Check your privacy and backup settings
Screenshots may contain bank details, addresses or private conversations. Review what you want stored online before enabling backup. In Google Photos, open your profile → Photos settings → Backup, then review device-folder backup choices. Turning on backup for a folder uploads its supported contents to the selected Google Account.
Cloud account storage is shared with other Google services and is not unlimited. Check your account’s storage and any paid options before subscribing. This guide does not require an upgrade or promise that all search features work offline.
If the screenshot still cannot be found
- Confirm that you actually saved the screenshot and check the gallery’s Screenshots folder.
- If looking for an older cloud copy, check which Google Account is selected.
- Check Trash or Recently deleted if the image might have been removed.
- Try another visible word or open likely images and use Lens individually. Search features can vary by account, region and app version.
Reader Recommendation
Use your gallery’s Screenshots folder for a recent image, Google Photos search for an older image with a recognizable word, and Lens when you need to copy text from an image you already found. Keep private screenshots out of shared albums.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to install ScreenshotGo again?
No. Mozilla no longer supports it. Use your phone’s screenshot control and a supported gallery or photo app for the task instead of searching for an old APK.
Does an empty search result mean my screenshot is gone?
No. Search may miss text or be looking at a different account’s library. Check the local folder, date range and account before concluding that the image was deleted.
Can I trust copied numbers without checking?
Compare copied references, phone numbers and amounts with the original screenshot. A single recognition error can change what the text means, especially when the image is small or blurred.
How to Uninstall Google Photos
Keep a separate copy of important screenshots first. If you use Locked Folder, back up its items or move them out before removal: Google warns that uninstalling Photos deletes Locked Folder items that are not backed up.
Open Settings → Apps → Photos. Choose Uninstall if available. On phones where Photos is preinstalled, removal may be unavailable; use Disable only if offered and suitable for your needs. Do not clear app data as a substitute for backing up files.
