Circle to Search is a Google feature available on selected Android phones. Touch and hold the Home button or navigation handle, then select something on the screen to search for it. If your phone does not support the feature, Google Lens can still search a screenshot or photo.

A Play Store app called Circle to Search by Sparks Devs is a separate third-party product. Installing it does not turn an unsupported phone into a device with Google’s built-in feature. This guide explains the difference and helps you choose the appropriate setup.

Check whether your phone supports Circle to Search

Open your phone’s Settings and search for Circle to Search. Availability depends on your model and software. Check your manufacturer’s support information if the option is missing; an Android version number alone does not establish compatibility.

On supported Samsung Galaxy devices, look under Settings → Display → Navigation bar. Samsung’s navigation guide explains the Home-button and gesture controls. Menu names can vary with software updates.

How to use the built-in feature

  1. Open the image, text or other content you want to investigate.
  2. Press and hold the Home button or the navigation handle at the bottom of the display.
  3. Circle, highlight or tap the item. Adjust the selection if it includes something unrelated.
  4. Review the search results and open a useful source.
  5. Use Back or close the search to return to your original screen.

If a supported device reports that screen search is unavailable, update the Google app and check its digital-assistant and screen-data settings. Google’s Circle to Search help page has the current troubleshooting steps. Some banking, medical and confidential apps restrict screen searching.

Use Google Lens when Circle to Search is unavailable

For occasional image searches, try the Google app by Google LLC before adding another tool. Lens supports searches from an existing picture; it is a different workflow from selecting content directly across your phone.

  1. Save a screenshot or choose a photo you have permission to use.
  2. Open the Google app and tap the Lens icon in its search bar.
  3. Select the image and narrow the selection to the relevant object or text.
  4. Read the results; add words to clarify what you want to find.

Google’s image-search instructions also cover searching website pictures. A visually similar result is a lead to investigate, not proof of an item’s identity or authenticity.

What about the Sparks Devs app?

The Sparks Devs listing advertises gesture-based image searching, text recognition and translation, with in-app purchases. The developer says its Accessibility service captures a screenshot when the user triggers a search. Read that permission request and the current Data safety section before enabling it.

We have not independently tested this app’s accuracy, battery use or compatibility. Its listing does not justify calling it Google’s official app or promising that it works on every Android phone. Compare the free features and any subscription terms inside the app before paying.

Protect private information while searching

  • Crop out passwords, payment details, personal messages and identification numbers before submitting a screenshot.
  • Check the developer name rather than choosing an app solely because its name matches a phone feature.
  • Turn off a third-party Accessibility service when you no longer need it.
  • Verify important answers on the original source; search results and AI summaries can be mistaken.

This guide is based on the linked Google, Samsung and developer documentation. It does not assign an untested review score.

How to Uninstall the Separate App or Turn Off the Feature

For Google’s built-in feature, search Android Settings for Circle to Search and switch it off. You do not need to uninstall the Google app to disable this feature.

If you installed the separate Sparks Devs app, turn off its Accessibility service, then open Settings → Apps, select that app and choose Uninstall. Cancel any subscription separately through the billing provider.
